{"id":128,"date":"2011-10-23T05:59:04","date_gmt":"2011-10-23T10:59:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/talkingwithjulia.com\/?p=128"},"modified":"2011-10-23T05:59:04","modified_gmt":"2011-10-23T10:59:04","slug":"be-active-brave-and-confident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/talkingwithjulia.com\/?p=128","title":{"rendered":"Be Active, Brave and Confident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the first week of classes, I asked my students to list their goals for the class, then we discussed those goals in groups and finally combined them to make a list in each class.<br \/>\n Most of the goals were predictable, such as &#8220;improve our oral English&#8221;, &#8220;improve our pronunciation&#8221;, and &#8220;speak English fluently.&#8221;  But a few goals apply beyond the classroom and into life itself.<br \/>\n &#8220;Be Active, Brave, and Confident&#8221; is a motto for all situations.   &#8220;Express ourselves clearly&#8221; certainly will help in communication.<br \/>\n &#8220;Broaden our horizons&#8221; is a goal worth remembering.<br \/>\n &#8220;Think in English&#8221;&#8212;Think in any language&#8212;always helpful.  &#8220;Improve our listening skills&#8221; &#8212; helpful in all of life.<br \/>\n  &#8220;Make happy memories&#8221; &#8212; a valuable plan.<br \/>\n  And, best of all, &#8220;Speak more wonderful sentences.&#8221;<br \/>\n May we all think first, and then speak &#8212; wonderful words, wonderful sentences, wonderful life.   <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the first week of classes, I asked my students to list their goals for the class, then we discussed those goals in groups and finally combined them to make a list in each class.
